This website was set up January 2023 in response to the fact that Robinvale was to acknowledge its 100th anniversary in 2024, with a celebration organised by a local committee.
Although it operated with a view to support the Centenary Committee, the website is an independent body, and all responsibility for its content rests with its founder, publisher and financier, Dianne Mann, of Block 30B Robinvale. (Contact details below.)
Now that the centenary is complete, I have changed the name to 'Robinvale Histories' to reflect the expanded vision of this website.
The goal of the website is to present our little town in as good, and as honest a light, as possible.
But history is like an iceberg: for every bit that you see, there is so much unseen and unrecognised!
We tend to see those who have 'stood above the crowd' for want of a better expression - but there are so many others whose stories are untold, who have for whatever reason, not thought their stories worth telling. This is just not the case. In the same way, there are so many interesting facts about how life actually was for many of the earliest Robinvaleites - from the earliest blockies and their young families who lived in tents or huts (if they were lucky), to the First Nations people who were here way before John Grant (1847) and his ilk arrived.
I take my best efforts to verify sources*, or seek approval where required, and write with empathy. If anyone has any issues with the Website content, I urge you to contact me directly and immediately to ensure that information is corrected, withdrawn or whatever appropriate action required, as soon as possible.
*Sources include newspapers of the time, archives, first person accounts, verifiable documents or websites.
