L Arnott & Sons
In 1924, a woman called Eliza Kilpatrick travelled by train from Ultima to the Robinvale land auction. She bought 2 blocks at the sale and by the time the train took her home she had finalised the deal, arranged business finance and engaged a builder to set up the accommodation place called “The Alcove Accommodation House.”
In 1927 the first wedding in Robinvale took place when Eliza’s daughter Doris, married a WWI return soldier called Lloyd Arnott. Lloyd’s health was not good due to the ongoing effects of being severely gassed during his military service in Belgium.
Lloyd was visiting a specialist in Melbourne for his conditon. The specialist told him he needed to move to a ‘warm, dry climate’ for the benefit of his health.
It was after this visit that whilst walking along Swanston Street he ran into Mr Cuttle whom he had worked for before the war. According to his son Len, Mr Cuttle said to him, “You’re just the man I need – I want someone to manage a shop at Robinvale.”

It has been my pleasure in the past to be a loyal customer of L.A.ARNOTT AND SONS, to have an Aunty working there as bookkeeper and accountant, THELMA RICHARDS, to have a brother in law whom also worked there as a sales assistant R.A.ADAMS.
It is with pleasure as a published author of my own variety of poetry to offer my services in any small way that may assist with the centenary celebrations of Robinvale and district.
